March 9, 2010 – The Wisconsin Supreme Court has voted unanimously to adopt in principle its draft version of the State Bar of Wisconsin’s 2007 petition regarding the unauthorized practice of law. The vote represents an important step toward adopting a workable definition of the practice of law and a mechanism to enforce that definition.
March 9, 2010 – The state Assembly gave its approval by voice vote on March 4 to AB 704, a bill that would update Wisconsin’s durable power of attorney law. The revised law is intended to promote acceptance of durable powers of attorney and address problems in the current law that allow abuses.

March 5, 2010 – The state Assembly has given final passage to legislation expanding financial eligibility for the appointment of a public defender, sending the bill to Gov. Jim Doyle for his consideration.
March 5, 2010 – Wisconsin residents may be surprised to learn that their local District Attorney (DA) and Assistant District Attorneys (ADAs) are state – not local – government employees. They might be even more surprised to learn about pending plans in Madison to reduce the number of prosecutors in counties across the state (on top of required furlough days for most of those who remain on the payroll).
March 5, 2010 – The United States Senate has unanimously confirmed President Barack Obama’s appointment of Madison attorney William Conley to replace Judge Barbara Crabb in the Western District of Wisconsin.
